Cantor said he wanted to run for President; supported the former president’s candidacy in 2022
The former president (PL) laughed during an interview this Thursday (16 January 2024) as a joke about the singer’s possible candidacy for president with indirect criticism of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
Journalist Tiago Pavinatto, who runs the program “Brazilian Western style”yes West Magazinesaid that the countryman, who expressed interest in running for president of the Republic in 2026, is a “good competitor” to the Planalto, as it “already has a conviction” e “drinks a lot”.
“Look, Gusttavo Lima is a good competitor because he already has a conviction, drinks a lot, so he has the resume to be president”, he stated. The statement was followed by laughter from the former president and the program’s commentary team.
In the 2022 elections, Gusttavo Lima publicly supported Bolsonaro. Asked about the candidacy of the countryman and the former coach (PRTB), however, the former head of the Executive refused to comment.

In an interview with Metropolisesthe countryman said he intended to run for president because he was tired “this story of right and left”.
The artist is approached by União Brasil, the party of the governor of Goiás, . Both are long-time friends and at the countryman’s house last week.
Caiado and Bolsonaro, on the other hand, publicly broke up after standing on opposite platforms during the municipal elections in Goiânia.
A survey released by Paraná Pesquisas shows that 65.7% of Brazilians are Gusttavo Lima’s entry into politics. Another 27.8% said they viewed the movement favorably, while 6.5% were unable to respond.
Respondents were also asked whether they would vote for the singer if he ran for president. The majority (50.6%) said they would not vote “no way”; 31.5% considered the possibility, and only 9.4% said they would vote for the artist “for sure”.
The survey interviewed 2,018 people aged 16 or over across Brazil from January 7 to 10, 2025. The margin of error is 2.2 pp (percentage points), plus or minus. Here is the study (PDF – 391 kB).
