The former president () stated this Tuesday (12) that he “has the best impression” of the senator (-PI), the target of a Federal Police operation, which revealed suspicions that Master.
Temer criticized what he called pre-conviction in the case. “This is a mistake in our system. When the Federal Police investigates, it carries out an investigation and then proposes to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to take action. Here, it was enough to register that someone is involved in something, that they have already been pre-convicted. It is a defect in our system”, he said.
Temer participates, in New York, in the so-called Brazil week, which brings together a series of parallel events organized by institutions such as Lide, Grupo Esfera, Veja and Valor Econômico.
He said that, if any mistake in Ciro Nogueira’s conduct is proven, “it will come to light later on.”
When asked about the Brazilian elections, the emedebista again said that he would not declare a vote at the moment and asked journalists to repeat the question in September. He also denied that he should return to public life. “I already did what I had to do.”
A lawyer, Temer worked for Banco Master. “I do conciliation and mediation work, but it didn’t work. Everything is being investigated, but it is necessary to bring the ultimate consequences to the investigation,” he declared.
He once again defended the reduction of penalties for coup acts, provided for in the Dosimetry Law, which could benefit the former president (PL). “It’s a theme of pacification of the country.”
Asked about the decision by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court), Temer suggested that the court act quickly.
“If the Supreme Court could examine these issues in ten days, it would be useful, because soon after that I think the constitutionality will be declared, and the reduction of penalties will begin”, declared the emedebista, responsible for nominating Moraes to a vacancy on the court.
When asked whether the meeting between the presidents (PT) and Donald Trump would have practical effects, Temer classified the event as a “polite meeting of two statesmen”. He stated that the moment was positive for both countries, as it helped to “relax” a relationship that is traditionally solid and “umbilical” between Brazil and the United States.
And, regarding the role of intermediaries, such as businessman Joesley Batista —according to the Reuters agency, the businessman was responsible for unlocking the meeting— Temer defended that “all types of help are valid”, but highlighted that the driving force of the meeting was Brazilian diplomacy, praising the work of Mauro Vieira and Itamaraty.
Joesley was the center of the Temer government’s biggest scandal, when he recorded a conversation with the then president about then deputy Eduardo Cunha.
says he is not 100% aligned with Caiado
Also during the event, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (), stated that, although he supports the candidacy of the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) for President, he is not 100% aligned with him politically.
“No one will get married, no one will have a family, no one will have friends, no one is surrounded by only people with whom they agree on everything. In the political party, we normally have differences too, but here my differences are alleviated”, he stated. “I greatly respect his trajectory, the management capacity he demonstrated in the state of Goiás and I have no doubt whether he is the best candidate.”
Regarding the candidacy of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), Leite said that, to defeat the PT, a plan is needed, and the Bolsonaro supporter would not have presented this yet.
“It’s not simply being against the PT. There has to be a better project to put in place. I don’t see a clear project. I can’t understand what project he has for the place.”
When commenting on the political impact of the scandal involving Banco Master, Leite stated that the case should influence the 2026 electoral scenario. For him, the political debate runs the risk of repeating the polarization observed in previous elections, marked by cases such as the Mensalão and Lava Jato.
“Instead of us voting to choose a project for the country, we are going into a scenario of attack, of throwing stones from one side to the other,” he said.
