Sovecon cuts Russian wheat crop forecast for 2026

Agricultural consultancy Sovecon cut its forecast for Russia’s 2026 wheat harvest to 88.9 million metric tons from 90.3 million tons after a downward revision to its estimate of planted area.

The total area planted with wheat is now estimated at 25.8 million hectares, compared to 26.4 million hectares previously forecast and 26.9 million hectares in 2025.

This would represent the lowest since 2014, when Russia planted 25.2 million hectares, the consultancy said.

Pulses in 2026 are now estimated at 135.2 million tonnes, compared to a previous estimate of 137.4 billion tonnes.
