A girl who was raped in São Tomé died in Coimbra. She arrived with a “fake doctor”

A 16-year-old teenager who was raped and left in a vegetative state in São Tomé and Príncipe, died this Thursday, at the Coimbra Pediatric Hospital, where she arrived accompanied by an alleged doctor who was involved in an international patient transport scheme.

The girl was hospitalized for around two weeks in the pediatrics unit at Coimbra Hospital, after being in a coma for more than a month in São Tomé and Príncipe.

Elisabete, the name by which the minor is identified in the São Tomé and Príncipe press, arrived at the unit accompanied by an alleged “fake doctor”but due to its “very fragile clinical condition”was admitted to Coimbra Hospital, on December 30th, says the (CM).

The child was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Hospital Pediátrico de Coimbra as soon as he landed in Lisbon.

Suffered cerebral palsy after rape

Elisabete was the target of a brutal assault when she was raped in her own home, where she was alone, in the village of Pantufo, near the city of São Tomé.

It will have been attacked and raped by several men who used duct tape to bind their hands and feet, and to cover your mouth and nosewhich prevented her from breathing for a long time.

When her mother arrived home and found her, it was too late. THE lack of oxygenation led to cerebral palsy.

The teenager’s attackers have not yet been identified by authorities.

The child been in a coma in a hospital in São Tomé and Príncipe, but ended up being sent home when doctors concluded that her situation was irreversible.

One Medical Board will have rejected the possibility of being sent to Portugal through legal means, to undergo some treatment here, as it was considered that there was nothing that could be done.

The case generated a wave of solidarity in the country, which led to the fundraising of around 10 thousand euros to allow the mother to travel with her daughter to Portugal.

“Evidence of irregular international mobility scheme”

When she arrived at the Pediatric Hospital of Coimbra, accompanied by her mother and the supposed fake doctor who is presented as Wilson Pereira, the PSP was called to the unit.

Wilson Pereira would have introduced himself as doctor specializing in cardiothoracic surgeryas mentioned in .

But professionals at the Coimbra hospital detected that Wilson Pereira had already been involved in the international transport of others to Portugal.

Thus, the PSP was called in the face of “indications of recurrence in his presentation as a doctor at the ULS of Coimbra and of involvement in a possible irregular international mobility scheme“, explains the Hospital in a statement.

“I already knew that the evacuation was illegal”

The alleged fake doctor presents himself on a Facebook profile as a student at the Faculty of Medicine (UFMG), noting that he was a student at the University of Coimbra, and indicating that he lives in this Portuguese city.

Wilson Pereira shared various information about Elisabete’s health status, including her death, and also reported how she arrived at Coimbra Hospital, noting that “initially rejected” hospitalization of the teenager.

But they ended up accepting it after Wilson Pereira hit with “your hand on the table” and have them “threatened” with a lawsuit at the European Court of Human Rights, he also says.

He also confesses that he “knew he would be detained” upon arriving in Portugal – he was not detained, but identified by the PSP – and that “he has already I knew the evacuation was illegal”.

But even so, he says he made progress so that the young woman “had more specialized treatment”. “She deserves it, after being savagely violated”he wrote on December 30th, precisely the day he was identified by the Portuguese authorities.

Wilson Pereira also said that it was “very well handled by PSP” and that the agents even expressed “pride” for their gesture in light of the “pitiable” state in which the girl found herself.

On January 7th, Wilson Pereira also revealed that the girl was being treated for an “infection related to the placement of PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrectomy) that resulted from a complication of a permanent nasogastric tube”.

He also said that the child had already gotten “a room” in the hospitaland that her brother and sister had already been able to visit her. He also revealed that his sister had moved to Coimbra “to support her mother who felt a little sad and alone”.

As for the rumored to be a fake doctorspoke of speculation and “taking advantage of a less good situation with the aim of gaining prominence and/or audience”.

Wilson Pereira also highlighted that he had been contacted by “journalists and owners of some channels”, noting that he would only agree to talk to them in court, “after the compensation process duly established.”

“When I find it convenient, I will give a interview on a public channel clarifying what happened”, he also promised.
