Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkiyan ordered the authorities to restore access to the Internet, which has been suspended in the country for more than 87 days. Citing a source from the Ministry of Communications, the semi-official Mehr news agency wrote this on Monday. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.

Internet access in the Islamic Republic has been almost completely blocked since the start of the war, which was triggered by US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. Only the so-called the national internet, which allows you to visit state-approved websites.

Economic consequences

As a result, millions of Iranians lost the opportunity to connect with relatives abroad. The economic consequences are also significant, because the blocking of the Internet also affects a number of merchants who are often dependent on it. The restrictions can only be bypassed by using expensive and advanced VPNs, which only a few Iranians have access to.

Iranian authorities officially claim that they are blocking the Internet for security reasons. However, according to observers, the Islamic regime likely shut down the Internet to prevent the spread of news, photos and videos on social media about the true extent of war damage and the mood in the country.
