Netflix confirmed the start of recording for the second season of Os Donos do Jogo, a Brazilian series that delves into power struggles, family rivalries and behind-the-scenes scenes in the universe of Jogo do Bicho in Rio de Janeiro. The announcement was made this Thursday (18), accompanied by a special meeting between the cast and production to celebrate the return of the plot.
The meeting took place at the Academicos da Rocinha court, in Rio de Janeiro, in an event marked by samba, feijoada and the traditional script reading. The occasion brought together the main names of the cast and served as a kickoff for the new phase of production.
Among the actors returning for the second season are Adriano Garib, André Lamoglia, Bruno Mazzeo, Chico Diaz, Dandara Mariana, Giullia Buscaccio, Henrique Barreira, Juliana Paes, Mel Maia, Pedro Lamin, Ruan Aguiar and Stepan Nercessian. The new batch of episodes will also feature important additions to the cast: Duda Matte, Elizabeth Savala and Willlean Reis arrive to join the story.
One of the creators of the series and general director of the production, Heitor Dhalia celebrated his return to the plot’s universe.
“I’m very happy to be able to return to the fascinating world of Rio misdemeanors. To meet the fictional animal families again in another electrifying season of Os Donos do Jogo, with increasingly higher stakes”, he stated.
The first season achieved international prominence when it entered Netflix’s Global Top 10, remaining among the most watched non-English language productions on the platform for six weeks. The result consolidated the series as one of Netflix Brazil’s most successful bets in the police and drama genre.
Produced by Paranoid, the second season promises to further expand the story’s universe, bringing new conflicts, alliances and power struggles amid the Rio crime scene. The series was created by Heitor Dhalia, Bernardo Barcellos and Bruno Passeri, with general direction by Dhalia and episodes also directed by Rafael Miranda Fejes and Matias Mariani.
No release date has yet been announced, the expectation is that the new episodes will deepen the tensions between the rival families and expand the scale of the events that won over the audience in the first season.
