Michal Šimečka met with Volodymyr Zelenský in Kyiv

Chairman of the opposition party Progressive Slovakia (PS) Michal Šimečka met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Kyiv on Friday. Šimečka said that the Ukrainian president is interested in good relations and cooperation. TASR informs about this according to the post of PS on the social network Facebook.

“An important meeting with President Zelensky. I have a clear message from him for Slovakia. Ukraine appreciates our support and is interested in the best relations and cooperation – including energy. And she is ready to negotiate. That’s exactly what I’m calling on (Prime Minister) Robert Fico to do,” Šimečka wrote. According to him, the PS delegation managed to “re-open the door that Prime Minister Fico slammed so needlessly with his aggressive attacks”.

Šimeček visited Kyiv on Friday together with several opposition politicians from the PS. In addition to Šimeček, the delegation in the Ukrainian capital also includes member of the PS presidency Ivan Korčok, MP and vice-president of the movement Tomáš Valášek and MPs Beáta Jurík and Lucia Plaváková, the director of the media department of the PS Alena Kuišová confirmed to the media.

Prime Minister Fico (Smer-SD) confirmed on Thursday that they are currently looking for another date for the meeting with Zelensky. Fico originally proposed joint negotiations to the Ukrainian president on the territory of the Slovak Republic near the state border with Ukraine. The topic was supposed to be the situation surrounding the transit of natural gas through Ukraine and bilateral relations. In a short statement on the X social network, Zelensky agreed to the negotiations and invited Fico to Kyiv on Friday.
