Noroeste x Palmeiras: how it was
At Palmeiras, coach Abel Ferreira took to the field a completely different team from the one that beat Portuguesa in its debut. The coach wants to give equal rhythm to all players in the squad. This Saturday’s team did not have Estêvão, but had names like Raphael Veiga, Gustavo Gómez and Flaco López.
The first half was hectic. Noroeste almost took the lead after two minutes. Thiago Lopes shot hard from outside the area and Marcelo Lomba stretched himself to defend. In the remainder, Pedro Felipe finished from inside the area and Lomba appeared well again.
Palmeiras responded to the three, with a shot from outside the area by reinforcement Facundo Torres, coming from Orlando City (USA). Felipe Alves jumped well and prevented the goal. Already at 12, Noroeste once again offered danger, with a shot from Carlão that passed close to Marcelo Lomba’s right post.
The two teams alternated in attack throughout the first half. In the final stretch, at 41, Facundo Torres placed the ball in the area and Gustavo Gómez headed in, close to the small area, but Felipe Alves showed reflexes to prevent the goal.

Noroeste started the second half better and was rewarded with the opening score. At five, Maykon made a great pass from the left to Carlão, who dominated by turning and finished with class to make it 1-0.
Even with an advantage, the home team did not back down and almost expanded at 20, with Pedro Felipe. After a low cross from the left, Carlão had a shot blocked and the ball fell to Pedro Felipe almost at the penalty spot, however, the attacker shot over the goal.
Abel Ferreira made changes to the team and replaced striker Thalys in Luighi’s place. At 23, the 19-year-old boy scored his first goal as a professional, taking advantage of a ball that was barely cleared by the Noroeste defense and tying the match. Noroeste complained about Palmeiras’ foul during the play, but referee Edina Alves Batista ordered the game to continue.
The last minutes were full of pressure from Palmeiras. Noroeste retreated after a physical problem with midfielder Vitinho, who had entered in the second half. The player left the field, but returned to help his teammates with the marking.
