In recent times, the stories we hear are of the English who exchanged the rain of their country for the sun of the Algarve. However, two long-time friends did exactly the opposite, but didn’t forget to take such a traditional element of Portuguese cuisine to London. Now, the Algarve also lives in London, but the two friends never stop coming to the south of the country in the summer, especially because the sun and beaches with crystal clear waters are not replaceable.
One is called Marco and was born in the Algarve, the other is called Jake and is from London, United Kingdom. They met when the former went to live with his parents in the capital of the United Kingdom, when they were still children. Marco took care of keeping Jake updated on the wonders of the Algarve and this was their first travel destination when they were both old enough to fly alone.
As , every summer a trip to the Algarve became mandatory and, in addition to the beaches and the sun burning the skin, barbecue chicken could never be missing from Marco and Jake’s table. What is certain is that the years passed and, in 2018, the two friends left their jobs and embraced a joint project that aimed to bring a bit of Portuguese tradition to London.
They took the traditional chicken to the English capital and opened the first Casa do Frango in London Bridge. As the name suggests, chicken is always present in the restaurant and you can eat it in different ways. You can either opt for chicken with piri-piri in the Algarve style, or you can choose fresh rice with sausage. As for sweets, pastel de nata is also always present.
Meanwhile, two more restaurants have already opened
The business that started in 2018 grew and was so successful that Marco and Jake opened another Casa do Frango, this time in Victoria. Three years later they repeated the feat in Piccadilly.
Today, anyone in London can experience a bit of the Algarve in this UK city, although nothing can replace coming to the southern region of Portugal.
