The semi-annual state governors’ conference in Innsbruck began on Thursday with the traditional Humtata, rifle company and a visit to the construction site of the Brenner Base Tunnel. However, in what is usually a rather relaxed setting, work is being done on one of the most sensitive questions of the coming months: Will the major, necessary changes and the Court of Auditors’ call for a leaner state succeed? Will the reform partnership announced with the federal government actually prove to be such and will we be able to agree on reforms in the areas of health, education, energy, administration and the constitution?
