American actor Paul Avery, known primarily from the series All My Children, and his wife Sheila lost their lives in a devastating fire at their home in New Jersey. The rescuers were unable to save the married couple, he writes. A huge tragedy occurred in the town of Blairstown on Tuesday shortly before 01:00.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters pulled the couple out of the burning house in critical condition. Despite immediate resuscitation, both succumbed to their injuries shortly afterwards. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Paul Avery became famous especially in the 80s in the role of charismatic the bartender Hughie in the popular American soap opera All My Children, where he worked for more than a decade.
He also played a minor role as a TV cameraman in the original 1978 Superman film and started a local newspaper in his town. The death of the parents was confirmed on the social network by their devastated daughter Kyle. “It is with great sadness that I announce that our parents passed away early this morning. We loved them dearly and they loved us. There was never any doubt about that,” she wrote.
The deceased actor is also remembered with respect by his friends. Joe Phalon, who works at the newspaper Avery founded, described him as an extraordinary person with a rich life. “I always said about Paul that he was the most interesting man in the world. He was an actor, a paratrooper, a Vietnam veteran, and he started a newspaper.” said Phalon. “His passing will leave a huge void in our community and surrounding towns. He will be truly missed and I think that will become more apparent as time goes on,” he added.
