The city center of Lagoa will once again be lit up with thousands of candles, between the 2nd and 5th of July 2026, to host the 11th edition of the Culture Market… by Candlelight.
Promoted by Lagoa City Hall, the event takes place at the Convento de São José and in the surrounding streets, with free entry, and stands out as one of the most unique cultural proposals of the Algarve summer.
This year’s edition will have the theme “Lusophone Culturality Exhibition”, proposing a journey through the territories, traditions, artistic expressions and identities that unite Portuguese-speaking countries and communities.
According to the Municipality of Lagoa, the event celebrates “the cultural diversity of the Portuguese-speaking universe through music, dance, gastronomy, crafts, literature and performative events”.
Lusofonia inspires four nights of culture in Lagoa
Over the course of four nights, the historic center of Lagoa will be transformed into an intercultural meeting space, marked by the intimate atmosphere created by the scenic lighting of candles.
The initiative invites residents and visitors to discover sounds, flavors and knowledge from different geographies of Lusophony, reinforcing the connection between culture, heritage and enjoyment of public space.
The program will include musical shows, street performances, exhibitions, workshops, traveling entertainment, gastronomic spaces and a craft market, bringing together artists, creators and participants from various countries.
For the Municipality of Lagoa, more than a cultural event, the Mercado de Culturas… à Luz das Velas asserts itself as “a space for sharing, dialogue and appreciation of diversity”.
Event reinforces Lagoa as a territory of culture and creativity
The 2026 edition aims to reinforce historical and contemporary ties between peoples united by the Portuguese language, valuing the diverse cultural expressions of the Portuguese-speaking universe.
He emphasizes that the event seeks to continue to affirm Lagoa “as a territory of culture, creativity and international exchange”.
With thousands of candles illuminating the city center, the Mercado de Culturas… by Candlelight once again provides a different visual and cultural experience, in an environment of great beauty and strong identity.
