Argentina recorded a primary surplus of 1.8% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and a financial surplus of 0.3% of GDP in 2024, the first time this result was achieved after 14 years of deficit, and was still the highest value of surplus in 16 years
The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, met in Washington with the director general of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, with whom she agreed to launch a new program for the country.
“Excellent meeting with Milei, at a time when Argentina is going through a remarkable transformation: the deficit has been eliminated, inflation has fallen and growth is recovering, with solid prospects”, welcomed Georgieva, on the social network X.
“We are working on a new program to support a vibrant economy, for the prosperity of the Argentine people”, he further announced.
Milei received the head of the IMF on Sunday, at the hotel where she is staying in Washington – where she traveled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump – for almost an hour and a half.
Georgieva announced that, next week, a team from the Fund will travel to Argentina.
“I think the alchemy of this will be a more dynamic and more prosperous Argentina,” he said.
