The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has become the safest car model assessed by Euro NCAP. In the family car categories, Volkswagen’s Passat and Skoda’s Superb stand out.

Safety is a decisive factor when choosing a new car, in addition to the type of vehicle and engine. To help consumers, the (European New Car Assessment Programme) evaluates vehicles in several safety categories, highlighting the safest models. In 2024, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class stood out as the car with the best overall score.

The E-Class, executive model with starting price of 62,750 euros in Portugal, it obtained the best evaluations in the four categories analyzed: protection of adult passengers (92%), protection of child passengers (90%), protection of pedestrians (84%) and safety support technologies (87%).

In addition to Mercedes, the Volkswagen Group is also in the spotlight. The Passat (Volkswagen) and Superb (Skoda) models, both built on the same platform, were recognized as leaders in the large family category due to high safety performance.

The Passat scored 93% in adult protection, 87% in child protection, 82% in pedestrian protection and 80% in assistive safety technologies. The Superb had, respectively, 93%, 87%, 82% and 80%.

In the large SUV category, the victory went to Mazda CX-80which obtained 92% in adult protection, 88% in child protection, 84% in pedestrian protection and 79% in safety support technologies.

Among small SUVs, the ZEEKR This model, recognized as the safest electric SUV, will arrive on the Portuguese market in 2026.

Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, praised manufacturers for their commitment to innovation and safety. “Brands are prioritize security of consumers, as it should be”, he stated.

With increased competition and technological advances, consumers have increasingly safer models at their disposal, highlighting the continuous effort of global manufacturers to protect drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
