Lô Borges and the eternity of those who were never in a hurry

There is something rarefied in Lô Borges’ music, as if it were born in the air between a memory and a daydream. At 73 years old, the artist from Minas Gerais — author of some of the most subtle MPB melodies — is experiencing a period of intense recovery.

After releasing the album “Céu de Giz”, at the beginning of 2025, he returns to the stage with the show “Esquinas & Canções”, alongside Beto Guedes and Sérgio Hinds, at the Festival Estilo Brasil, on October 25th.

Lightness has always been a compass. Since the legendary “Disco do Tênis” (1972), Lô composes like someone observing the world through the window: attentive, but without urgency. “I’ve never been one to plan too much,” he said in an interview with Metropolises. “Music appears when it needs to. Sometimes it comes from a memory, sometimes from a dream. It’s almost a conversation with the invisible.”

This spiritual dimension runs through the entire work — from the harmonies of Clube da Esquina to the most recent lyrics. In “Céu de Giz”, he revisits the past without clinging to it.

“I like the idea of circular time. We return to the same places, but each time with a different perspective”, he explained. “These new songs were born from the same impulse as when I was 18: the desire to play what I feel.”

Lô also celebrates the reunion with Beto Guedes and Sérgio Hinds as an affirmation of continuity. “They are people who were part of my human formation. Playing with them is like rediscovering a part of my own history.”

The repertoire includes classics from all over the world, reinterpreted in subtle arrangements that mix electric piano, guitars and soft choirs.

Despite his discreet fame, Lô Borges is today one of the most influential Brazilian artists outside the country. Bands like Arctic Monkeys and Khruangbin have already cited Clube da Esquina as an aesthetic reference.

“I think it’s beautiful when someone out there understands this language”, highlighted Lô. “It means that music is truly universal, that it arrives before translation.”

At the Estilo Brasil Festival, the public will see this same spirit on stage: that of the artist who never sought stardom, but became eternal through simplicity.

The Estilo Brasil Festival is hosted by Banco do Brasil Estilo, sponsored by BB Visa, Banco do Brasil and Federal Government cards. The realization is Metropolisesproduced by Oh! Arts.
