Democrat Hillary Clinton laughed after the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, said at the inauguration ceremony this Monday (20/1) that he will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America”. During the ceremony, the former first lady and former secretary of state was seated next to her husband, former president Bill Clinton.
On social media, internet users commented on Clinton’s reaction. “We are all Hillary Clinton,” said one user on X (formerly Twitter). “She’s my president, I love her,” commented another. Hillary competed in the presidential elections in 2016 precisely with Donald Trump, to whom she lost the election.
“I think changing the name is perfectly plausible. The Gulf of Mexico is surrounded by the United States,” wrote another internet user. “She doesn’t like her country”, accused another.
Gulf of Mexico
The Gulf of Mexico is the largest gulf in the world, surrounded by land in North America and Central America. A gulf is a portion of sea or ocean surrounded by land. In other words, a large bay with a wide opening to the sea.
The formation connects with the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Florida, which is between the United States and Cuba, and with the Caribbean Sea through the Yucatán Channel, between Mexico and Cuba. The largest bay in the gulf is Campeche (Mexico).
The gulf’s subsoil is rich in oil, which is extracted through offshore platforms. Another important activity in the region is fishing for fish and crustaceans.
