The president and the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, countered criticism from the governor of MG regarding Planalto’s vetoes to renegotiation

The president (PT) said that the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, had to give him a trophy for approving the renegotiation of the states’ debts. He further stated that “only Jesus Christ” would do what he did for states that did not pay debts.

“This agreement on the debt of Minas Gerais, of the States as a whole, the governor of Minas Gerais should come here and bring me a prize…bring me a trophy from the 1st president of the Republic, of which he is aware, who has never vetoed absolutely anything no governor, no mayor for being against or in opposition”he stated, during the event to hand over the BR-381 concession.

“What we did for the States that did not pay their debts, perhaps only Jesus Christ would do if he ran for President of the Republic of that country.”, declared the president. Last week, the president had already responded to Zema’s criticism of his vetoes on the topic that the States with the most debt to the Union are “ungrateful”.

Rui Costa was in the same line as Lula, saying that if there is any doubt on the part of the States regarding the renegotiation, they should contact the National Treasury and not record videos for social media. He said again that, in Brazil, there are those who work and those who want to be on social media.
