The mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, was presented this Saturday (20) with a Corinthians t-shirt for his speeches during the 2026 World Cuphours before the Brazilian team’s debut against Morocco, on the 13th.
Mamdani participated in an event where he met with Corinthians leaders, as well as the black and white idol, former player and commentator Walter Casagrande Jr. T-shirt delivery was attended by Rafael Castilhocultural director, and Vinicius Cascone, former legal director of Corinthians, who published the meeting with the American politician on his social networks.
On his social networks, Mamdani spoke about various facts regarding traffic and the NBA final, in addition to taking a few moments to comment on the World Cup and Brazilian football. He mentioned Moroccan Yassine Bono and the Brazilian trio Vini Jr., Raphinha and Richarlisson (who was not called up). After, emphasized the trajectory of Sócrates, idol and symbol of Corinthian Democracy alongside Casagrande.
“Lately, I’ve been thinking about Socrates – not the ancient Greek philosopher, but the Brazilian midfield maestro. Sócrates played in and for Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s, including in the 1982 World Cup, in which he was captain.”
“These were difficult years in Brazil. A repressive military junta governed the country, imposing its laws through force. At Corinthians, the club he captained, with his teammates, he participated in what Brazilians dreamed of every day: democracy. They began an experiment in self-governance called Corinthian Democracy”, mentioned the mayor of NY.
The Brazilian team returns to the field for the World Cup next Wednesday (24) for the 3rd round of the group stage. THE The opponent this time is Scotland and the ball rolls at 7pm (Brasília time).
