Mayor of Sorocaba announces “free transit” decree with USA

Document establishes guidelines for promoting institutional relations between the city of São Paulo and the country

The mayor of Sorocaba (SP), (Republicans), announced in his on Instagram on Friday (January 17, 2025) who signed a decree of “free traffic” between the city of São Paulo and the USA. Here is the decree (339 KB).

“Trump, you can come to Sorocaba. Decree of free transit between Sorocaba and the United States. I am drafting a decree where politicians, businesspeople, students, including those for exchange, will be able to use the Sorocaba structure to exchange experience with that country”declared Rodrigo Manga.

The decree aims to “joint agendas for social and economic impact projects, meetings, seminars, workshops and other integration activities with North American partners and promotion of economic development through initiatives in areas such as trade, investment, tourism and infrastructure”.

The document, however, makes no mention to the end “free traffic”which Rodrigo Manga talks about in his video. The text says establish “guidelines for promoting institutional relations” between Sorocaba and the USA, “with the aim of fostering partnerships and joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest”.

The decree also states that the municipality is entitled to “the conclusion of partnership agreements with government, business, academic entities and other institutions” from the USA.

On Sunday (January 21, 2025), Rodrigo Manga shared on his Instagram profile a montage in which Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and billionaire Elon Musk appear on a plane and the head of the mayor of Sorocaba placed on the someone else’s body, as if the Brazilian was eating with the Republican.

“Thank you for the invitation, President Trump! It is an honor to be invited to your inauguration and travel alongside you on the presidential plane. (The envious politicians will say it’s fake news… Go mind your own business!)”wrote Rodrigo Manga.
