Music, tradition and flavors marked Terra de Maio in Azinhal

The village of Azinhal once again celebrated Algarve traditions and the Algarve Goat with another edition of Terra de Maio – Feira da Cabra, which took place between the 22nd and 24th of May, at the Multipurpose Center in that location in the municipality of Castro Marim.

The event highlighted the knowledge and flavors linked to the Algarve Breed Goat, with animal exhibitions and the eighth edition of the Largest Algarve Breed Goat Cheese.

One of the highlights of this edition was the opening of the exhibition “Cabra Algarvia – Memória viva do Azinhal”, dedicated to the village’s historical connection to this emblematic species of the Algarve.

The exhibition included pieces from a collection donated by the family of the late veterinarian José Silva Lobo, recognized as one of the main promoters of the National Association of Algarvian Goat Breeders, together with the former president of the Azinhal Parish Council, António Pereira.

Exhibition paid homage to tradition linked to the Algarve Goat

Terra de Maio once again established itself as a space for valuing the territory’s rural and cultural heritage, bringing together producers, creators, artisans and visitors.

During the event, the Hub Criativo project was also publicly presented, a future space dedicated to research, professional training and artistic residencies.

The technical seminar promoted as part of the fair covered topics such as the potential of the carob tree and dragon fruit in efficient water management, support for agriculture after storms and good practices in the exploitation of the Algarvian Breed Goat.

The venue also hosted showcookings conducted by the School of Hotel Management and Tourism of Vila Real de Santo António and by several guests, including Marco Costa, Vitória Santos, Jossara Martins, Alípio Branco, Abílio Guerreiro and Fátima Soares.

Portuguese music marked three days of entertainment

The musical program included shows by Fábio Lagarto, Bandidos do Cante and Miguel Azevedo, as well as performances by Pardais à Solta, Charanga los del Ruedo, Rancho Folclórica do Azinhal, Acordeanima, Ângelo Correia, Hugo Madeira, Sérgio Conceição and Adordeonistas.

The event also included equestrian demonstrations, children’s activities led by educator Mariana Santos, a fair of regional products, workshops, craft demonstrations and archery.

The launch of the wine “Marquês do Guadiana”, produced in Almada D’Ouro, in the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, was also announced.

Event bets on the valorization of rural territory

During the initiative, a collaboration protocol was also signed within the scope of Fuel Management Ranges, involving Castro Marim City Hall, the Algarve Hunters Federation and hunting associations and clubs in the municipality.

According to the entities involved, at a time when “the resilience of territories” is being debated, initiatives like this help to boost new economic activities and attract population to the interior.

Terra de Maio was organized by the Municipality of , in collaboration with the Azinhal Parish Council.
