Current Spanish, European and intercontinental champion, Real Madrid is also the first club to record revenue of more than 1 billion euros.

According to a survey by the London-based consultancy Deloitte, the Spanish giant raised, in the 2023/2024 season, 1.046 billion euros (R$6.48 billion).

The value is more than five times what Flamengo, the best-placed South American club in the rankings (30th place), achieved.

The main sources of income for the Spanish team, which includes stars such as Vinicius Junior, Mbappé and Bellingham, were, in order: commercial gains (from sponsors and product sales); commercialization of broadcasting rights; box office.

Real’s revenue exceeds by 26% that of the study carried out for the previous season (2022/2023), when the value was R$831.4 million.

According to Deloitte, the stadium factor played a decisive role in the Whites’ results: “The club’s financial success during the season was sustained by the recently renovated and expanded [Santiago] Bernabéu, which provided significant increases in commercial revenue and [obtidas] on game days, compared to the previous season”.

In a renovation that began in 2019 and was completed at the end of last year, Real’s stadium was expanded (from 81 thousand to close to 85 thousand spectators) and modernized.

Record holder in revenue, the Madrid club reported a profit, in 2023/2024, of R$16 million euros (R$98 million).

In the current Deloitte survey, after Real, the clubs with the biggest money-raising in 2023/2024 are Manchester City (837.8 million euros), current English champion, and Paris Saint-Germain (805.9 million euros). euros), current French champion.

In the 28 years that Deloitte has been carrying out this study, the difference in revenue from first place to second place has never been so great.

In the top 10 of the ranking, six clubs are English (Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea) – the Premier League is considered the most relevant competition in the world. There are also two Spanish (Real Madrid and Barcelona), one French (PSG) and one German (Bayern Munich).

The ability of teams from the king’s land to generate revenue is so remarkable that even the mediocre ones (such as Brighton, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Wolverhampton) are placed in the top 30, ahead of traditional teams such as Porto and Sporting (from Portugal), Bayer Leverkusen (from Germany) and Lazio (from Italy).

In its analysis, the consultancy predicts that the expansion of clubs’ financial gains will come from an increase in the number of matches played, “by introducing new formats to existing competitions”.

For 2024/2025, UEFA has increased the number of games in its championships, such as the Champions League and the Europa League, with an increase in participants, and there will be a new tournament organized by FIFA, the Club Supermundial, which will have 32 teams.

The constant increase in the number of games has been systematically criticized by coaches and players, due to the increase in physical wear and tear on the workforce, which can cause more injuries. It is thought that footballers may go on strike to change this scenario.
