The mayor of Nice issued on Friday regulation limiting the sailing of large cruise ships in order to prevent excessive tourism in this southern French city on the Cote d’Azur. The information was brought by the AFP agency, from which TASR took over the report.

The regulation, signed by Mayor Christian Estrosi, bans cruise ships with more than 900 passengers from anchoring off the coast of Nice. Smaller ships that generally offer much more luxurious cruises are still welcome. “Recreational cruises yes, floating buildings no,” declared Estrosi.

He added that the city faced pressure to increase the number of tourists arriving in Nice on cruise ships from 160,000 people in 2024 to 300,000 in 2026. This year, approximately 124 tourist cruises are expected in the port of Nice, with individual cruise ships transporting from 32 to 700 tourists.
