The Ministry of Human Rights and the Special Commission on Dead and Missing Politicals plan an official apology ceremony to the family of the former deputy killed by the military dictatorship, and 413 more missing during the regime.

The National Council of Human Rights reopened in April 2024 the process that investigated the disappearance and death of Rubens Paiva, which had been filed by the so -called Human Rights Defense Council in 1971.

According to him, the case had been filed by the predecessor body through the coercion of the military to members of the Council, who pressured for the filing.

The apology is one of the actions aimed at ensuring repair of the Rubens Paiva family case. From this initiative of the case rapporteur, the objective is to extend these investigations and retraction to other victims.

“From the beginning when we decided to reopen the case, the family always pointed out that it could not be alone in the case of Rubens Paiva. It should not be treated with a unique and special case, but a representative case of what has always happened to several families . “

In the cause of the death of the previous certificate, only that Rubens Paiva had disappeared in 1971.

The change meets a determination of last December for civil registry offices to draw or correct the documents of dead and missing people.

The CNJ forwards to the registry the necessary data for rectification, based on systematized information by the dead and missing committee. Upon receipt of this information, the notary’s offices have 30 days to draw up new death seats and certificates.

Once this stage is completed, the notary’s offices must send the certificates rectified to the committee which, in turn, will organize the delivery of documents to families in solemn ceremonies, and there may be apology and other honors.

Families wishing to receive rectified death certificates should contact the commission informing you where they would be delivered. To this end, the guidance is to respond to a form available on the Ministry’s website. From there, the certificate delivery schedule is made.
