Rescuers and cops search the River Potomac.
The American Airlines commercial aircraft, just before landing at Ronald Reagan’s International Airport, collided with a helicopter and collapsed into the Pomadaac River now searching rescuers and searching for survivors. TASR reports this based on US media reports, including CNN and AP.
The Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft went to Washington from Wichita, Kansas, USA. With a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, it collided shortly before 21.00 am East American time (03.00 CET), just as it was approaching the runway.
There were 60 passengers on board the plane and four crew members. The reports of their status are not yet known. There are a number of rescuers and police officers on the spot.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said US President Donald Trump was informed of the situation. In the meantime, the American vice president of JD Vance called on the public to pray for people on board. Whether a helicopter collapsed into the Potomac River was not immediately obvious, but the NBC News Station states as possible.
At Ronald Reagan airport, they canceled all flights. The accident is investigated by the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) together with the US National Transport Safety Authority (NTSB).
