Sick and wounded Palestinian children will leave Gaza for treatment this Saturday (1st), a employee of the Ministry of Health of Gaza told CNN.

Munir al-Barash, ministry’s director-general, said 50 children were approved to leave Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis and Al-Shifa Hospital in the city of Gaza. Some have cancer or hematological diseases, he added.

“We sent 400 names of sick children to the World Health Organization,” he said.

The transfer of injured and patient Palestinians for urgent medical treatment was a part of and ceasefire signed in January between Israel and Hamas.

Understand the conflict in the Gaza Strip

Israel has performed intense air strikes in the Gaza Strip since 2023, after Hamas has invaded the country and killed 1,200 people, according to Israeli counts. In addition, the group keeps dozens of hostages.

Hamas does not recognize Israel as a state and claims Israeli territory for Palestine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to destroy Hamas military capabilities and recover people detained in Gaza.

In addition to the aerial offensive, the Israeli army makes terrestrial forays into Palestinian territory. This caused much of the population of Gaza to be moved.

The UN and various humanitarian institutions warned of a catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, lacking food, medicine and disease dissemination.
