Many people are currently cleaning the cemetery before All Saints’ Day. They often get rid of old, burnt candles and flowers and bouquets that look bad. However, it is worth doing it in a way that still ensures proper waste segregation. We tell you where to place these things so as not to make a mistake.
Segregation of waste is very important. Despite this, many people still have problems with proper waste management, which means that a large amount of garbage still ends up in the wrong place. This significantly impedes effective recycling. It is worth remembering that waste belongs according to the following division:
- blue containers – paper,
- green containers – glass,
- black containers – mixed waste,
- brown containers – biodegradable waste,
- yellow containers – metals and plastics.
Sometimes we can also find containers marked in white, intended for colorless glass.
When cleaning up old candles in a cemetery, we need to know where they are. It turns out that they should not be placed in a glass container, even if they are made of glass. This is due to the fact that they are not packaging glass and, in addition, contain other elements, such as: metal lids, plastic inserts or wax residues. For this reason, they cannot be thrown into the green container.
So that means all kinds dirty, melted candles should be placed in a mixed waste container. Let’s also place there those that we cannot separate into individual raw materials.
However, if we want to replace the candles but the current ones are still in good condition, we do not have to throw them away. We can use the so-called necropolis, which appears in an increasing number of cemeteries in Poland. These are usually simple shelves where we leave undamaged candles that we no longer need, and someone can use them instead of buying new ones. This is a great initiative that is becoming more and more popular.

It is also worth knowing where to throw away various types of flowers and bouquets. For cut flowers, it’s best place them in a bio-waste container, however, first remove all unnatural elements, such as plastic decorations, ribbons or wires.
In turn, artificial flowers and bouquets made of plastic or other materials that are not suitable for recycling should be thrown into mixed waste. However, when dealing with flowers in a pot, it is best to separate the pot and throw it into a yellow container if it is plastic.and then separate the remaining parts. We can throw the twigs into bio-waste and the soil with roots into mixed waste.
