United States President Donald Trump today signed the executive order to apply customs rates to products from Canada, Mexico and China.

The signature, which officializes the decision already announced, took place at Trump’s private residence in sea-to-water in Florida and determines the imposition of 10% rates on China, 25% to Mexico and 25% to Canada, Except in Canadian oil, which will have a 10%tariff.

France-Presse agency writes that the presidential decree on the importation of Canadian products comes into force on Tuesday, February 4.

According to the White House, the order of Donald Trump also includes a mechanism to increase customs rates in case of retaliation of these countries – the three main commercial partners of the United States and in total represent more than 40% of imports in the country.

Trump had threatened the imposition of tariffs to ensure greater cooperation from countries to prevent illegal immigration and smuggling of chemicals used to make fentanil, a powerful opiate that is causing damage in the United States.

The Republican President had also promised to use fares to boost national production and increase revenues from the US Federal Government.
