A survey brought a variation in prices in Brazil, with some products registering increases of more than 300% in 2024. The survey, conducted by Clickfarma, stressed that the rivaroxabana anticoagulant had a price variation of 359%. Similarly, prednisolone, used to treat inflammation, increased by 340%. Other medications, such as Tadalafil and folic acid, were not behind either, with increases of 328% and 311%, respectively.

These data reflect the complex market dynamics and competitiveness between pharmacies, as explained by Lélio Sousa, vice president of solutions for Afia medical practice. The drug market regulation chamber had authorized a adjustment of up to 4.5% in prices from March 31. However, the variation observed in some products significantly surpassed this index. (ANVISA) establishes a ceiling for increases, but intense competitiveness between pharmacies can result in very varied prices.

To protect consumers, Procon monitors pharmacies to ensure that they do not practice abusive prices, and the maximum price list is available on the Anvisa website. Experts also recommend that patients ask doctors about more affordable alternatives such as generic medications, and check the price difference between physical and online stores. In addition, the Popular Pharmacy Program comes as a viable option to get medicines at more competitive prices.
