Depending on the degree of fragmentation, the corn can be divided into coarse -grained porridge or flour -like consistency. However, a common taste remains a characteristic taste, which in practice means that it works great in many different dishes – from sweet and ending with dry.

First of all, corn porridge is a great source of complex carbohydrates. And these provide the body with energy. Thanks to this, this product works great as a component of breakfasts or dinners that are to ensure strength for the whole day. All, because, unlike products rich in simple sugars, corn porridge does not cause sudden jumps and drops in blood glucose.

One should also mention fiber, which corn provides in quite significant amounts. This translates into the support of the digestive system and cholesterol regulation, but also prevents constipation. Another advantage are minerals: calcium (strengthens bones and teeth), magnesium (supports the work of the heart and nervous system) and potassium (regulates blood pressure and works favorably on muscles).

Vitamins remain another important ingredient, mainly supporting brain work, improving concentration and reduce the feeling of fatigue of B vitamin. But also vitamin E, in turn, acting antioxidant and protecting cells from the harmful effects of free radicals.

Another advantage, which you cannot pass by indifferently nowadays, is the lack of gluten. As a result, corn porridge is a great alternative for people suffering from gluten intolerance. This means that it can be safely consumed by people who have to avoid wheat, rye or barley. And they can still enjoy a valuable and tasty product.

It is worth adding that corn porridge is characterized by an average glycemic index, i.e. after consuming it increases blood sugar at a moderate pace. This, in turn, is an advantage for people with diabetes, because it helps maintain stable glucose levels.

Corn porridge can be prepared in many different ways. One of the most popular dishes with her participation is Polenta, which is an Italian dish with a creamy consistency, served as an addition to meats or vegetables. This product is also often used as a component of soups and stews, and even … baking to mention even about corn bread.

Something sweet? No problem. Cooked corn porridge with the addition of milk, fruit and honey is a delicious and healthy proposition for breakfast.

In order for corn porridge to retain its properties for a long time, its proper storage is crucial. Correct, i.e. preferably in a tight container in a dry and cool place. Why? Because heat and moisture can adversely affect its quality. But how do you make sure it’s still fresh? Well, you should look carefully at the color (it should be uniform) and the smell (it must be pleasant).

Preparation of corn groats? Nothing simpler! Just boil water, add a pinch of salt and gradually pour porridge, stirring constantly to avoid the appearance of lumps. We cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes until it obtains the desired consistency.

Strengthens the heart, adds energy, supports the nervous system, does not sensitize and tastes great. But it also remains affordable and extremely simple to prepare. A lot of advantages for such an inconspicuous product, right? Perhaps the biggest of all is, however, that … we will certainly find it in one of our kitchen cabinets, where this product is patiently waiting for its five minutes.
