The actress only diagnosed stomach cancer three months ago, which the PR agency also described as the cause of death. On Sunday, after the cardiac arrest, she was taken to a hospital in Uidžongba, north of Seoul, where she was declared dead.
Even Jo-Sil started in 1965 as a theater actress. She has played in many renowned performances and has become an important figure in the South Korean theater scene over the years. In 1993 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She completely recovered from the disease after about ten years.
Despite health problems, however, she continued to act in her acting career, which she later extended to the field of television and film. In 2016 she was given a smaller role in the award -winning film Train to the Pusan. Last time, in the second series of the popular series Squid Game from 2024, she played the mother of a former cop. It was this role that brought her recognition abroad.
