They will suspend the imposition of tariffs for a month, Claudia Seinbaum announced after a conversation with the US president.

“I am sure that in this month we can achieve results,” he said at a press conference.

Trump, for his part, posting on social networking sites, confirmed that they were going to be imposed on Tuesday. Negotiations will begin to reach a “agreement” between the two countries that will also be attended by Foreign Ministers Marco Rubio, Finance Scott Bessed and candidate Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnik.

Seinbaum said she had a “good” and “long” discussion with Trump on issues of “mutual interest” and that she proposed the suspension of duties. At the same time, he asked Trump to help Mexico stop the smuggling of weapons from the US and he agreed.

According to Seinbaum, Mexico will immediately develop 10,000 ethnic border with the US to deal with drug trafficking. He added that he considers the agreement reached with Washington after helping Mexico to boost the security of his borders.

Seinbaum, however, stressed that her country would defend and always support Mexican immigrants.

The teams of the two countries began to work today on “security and business” issues, he added.

President Trump insisted on dealing with the trade deficit between the two countries, but Seinbaum said she “reacted” to this proposal.

The President of Mexico and the US president agreed to continue the dialogue, but did not plan a meeting between them, he concluded.
