“Carnival is not a drought…” and is the scene of criticism and fun in Loulé

The Carnival of Loulé again combines the satire and the revelry to reflection on a serious theme. In 2025, the parade, which will take place on March 2, 3 and 4 on Avenida José da Costa Mealha, will be inspired by the problems of the lack of water in the Algarve and is under the motto “Carnival is not a drought…” .

The event, considered the oldest carnival in the country, will feature 15 floats, about 600 animators, samba schools, animation groups, heads, gigantones and a lot of political and social satire, providing a dynamic and interactive show, where the public It is also part of the party.

The drought that has plagued the region in recent years will be one of the central themes, noting the recreation of the long-awaited desalinizing in one of the floats, which will be presented firsthand to the public. Another highlight is a car dedicated to the rural world Algarve, starring the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, and the iconic Zé Povinho. The proliferation of avocado, criticized by the high water consumption, will be opposed to the defense of the orchard orchard, represented by Zé Povinho, faithful to his carobeiras and almond trees.

International policy will also be satire, highlighting the United States and Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies. In one of the cars, Mexican immigrants and other nationalities are expelled, and even Kamala Harris, his opponent in the White House race, is sent to the Mexico Desert, in a pun entitled “Kamala in the Hand.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, a recurring figure at the Carnival of Loulé, returns this year to the parade to represent his luxurious life in Saudi Arabia and the millionaire renewal of his contract. In a region where water is an increasingly precious good, the Portuguese star is described as being paid “the weight of the water”.

In addition to these, other events that have marked the national and international today will be prominent, always in an irreverent and humorous tone. The parade will be held between 15:00 and 18:00, with tickets at a cost of 2 euros, whose recipes revert to social causes and participating groups, which represent local collectivities.

The Loulé Carnival program also includes a set of parallel activities, from sporting events to the traditional Gala Ball, which will take place on the night of Monday, March 3, at the Loulé Ballroom.

The launches the invitation: “Come to Loulé and have fun to the great and Louletana!”
