Corinthians striker Memphis Depay was convicted in Monaco for driving with amount of alcohol in the blood higher than allowed. A penalty of four months in prison was established, which was suspended, on the condition of compliance with precautionary measures.
The Dutchman will have to pay a fine of 9,000 euros (about $ 54,000) and will not be able to guide in the principality for a period of two years. He has two weeks to appeal the decision of the Monaco Criminal Court.
According to local press vehicles, he recognized the infraction. Corinthians was consulted about a player’s position on the conviction, but had no response until the publication of this text.
The case occurred before the striker’s arrival at Corinthians in September last year. The episode was recorded on August 6, when he was vacationing in Monaco after his participation in the Euro with the Netherlands national team.
According to the complaint, Memphis led a Rolls-Royce “risky” through the streets of the principality, which caught the attention of the authorities. He was then stopped at Praça das Armas, and performed the breathalyzer test.
