The war in Ukraine has been with us for some Friday, whether we like it or not. And with the new nation, even unprecedented recipes get among us more and more often. One of the popular Ukrainian and Polish delicacies is Golubka, which is worth trying in the winter.
Golubcs are basically filled with cabbage leaves with meat and rice, which are served in tomato sauce. So it is not a heavy dish to burden your body, but a food that will do well in winter. Even its preparation is not difficult.
“Cabbage is a vitamin bomb for the health of us adults and the health of children and can strengthen the body’s defenses and settle the intestinal microflora with natural probiotics,” says nutritional advisor Ing. Eva Kocurková.

The most important is the choice of cabbage
You will only need 1 head cabbage, 500 g minced meat, ideal is a combination of pork and beef, 1 mug of rice, 1 onion, 1 can of tomato paste, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 2 bay leaves and salt, pepper, cumin to taste.
Prepare cabbage first. Cut off the broom and carefully peel off the sheets. If the leaves are too hard, boil them briefly in hot water to soften. Then comes the filling. Prepare it by mixing the minced meat with boiled rice and fried onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine the ingredients.
Rollers must be stacked correctly
Then put a little filling on each cabbage leaf and roll up. Fold the rolls into the pot so that they are close to each other.
In the last step, prepare the tomato sauce. In the pot, mix the tomato paste with a little water, add salt, sugar and bay leaves. Boil the sauce for 5 minutes and pour on the prepared rolls. Cook the Golubka on low heat for about an hour until the cabbage softens.
Remember, they say they are the best when you let them rest for a while, but of course you can have them immediately after cooking.
