The death toll of a traffic accident involving a bus in southern Mexico rose to 41 people, the Tabasco State Government said in a statement, adding that the recovery work was still underway.
The bus, which carried 48 people, resulting in the deaths of 38 passengers and three drivers, local authorities said.
Reuters images show the bus completely burned after the collision, with only remains of the remaining metal structure.
“So far, only 18 skulls have been confirmed, but much more is missing,” Tabasco safety sources said on anonymous condition, adding that recovery work is still on site.
Bus operator Tours Acosta said she was “deeply sorry for what happened,” in a Facebook post. The company said it was working with the authorities to find out what happened and if the bus was traveling within the speed limit.
