Federal Deputy Eros Biondini (PL-MG) is gathering signatures for an amendment proposal to the Constitution (PEC) that stipulates. Today, the requirement is that the candidate is at least 35 years old.
According to the author, the text has 101 of the 171 signatures necessary. Biondini expects to file the proposal in the next two weeks. “She is having a great adhesion for the obvious need for modernization of electoral legislation and the recognition of young people’s protagonism in all areas of society, including politics,” he said.
According to the project, other positions would also have the reduced age requirement. The current 30 years required to be a governor or deputy governor would go to 28, while federal and state deputies, mayors and vice mayors could be 20, instead of the 21 years today.
The signatures of 171 of the 513 parliamentarians are required for the text to be filed and to process in the House of Representatives. After protocol, PEC’s first step would be the discussion in the House Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ), which analyzes the constitutionality of the proposals.
Eros is the father of Chiara Biondini, a state deputy for Minas Gerais who is considered the youngest state deputy elected in the country. When she competed in 2022, she was 20 years old, and took office on the day she turned 21. While her colleagues took over the Mandate on February 1, 2023, Chiara waited on 22, as it is allowed by the Internal Regulations of the Minas Gerais Assembly that the possession takes place within 30 days from the first meeting of the house. Chiara has already been cited by her father as inspiration for the proposed change.
If approved in 2025, as Eros Biondini plans, PEC could make possible by the candidacy of names such as João Campos (PSB), André Fernandes (PL) and (PL), which aspire to the government of the states of Pernambuco, Ceará and to a position in the Senate, respectively.

Nikolas has already defended the project publicly, emphasizing the fact that PECs do not need presidential sanction. He stated that with the approval of the matter, he could compete for the Federal Senate with a “perfect timing”.
