Trump had the name of “Gulf of Mexico” to “Gulf of America”
Associated Press (AP) reveals that the White House prevented the agency reporter from the Oval Room during an event that took place this Tuesday and was attended by several journalists, Elon Musk and one of his children of the billionaire-the child is called x æ a-xii. The White House decision is due to the fact that AP chooses to keep the name Gulf of Mexico instead of America’s Gulf.
AP said in a statement that it was informed on Tuesday that if the news agency did not “align its editorial standards with the executive order of President Donald Trump that renamed the Gulf of Mexico as Gulf of America, the AP would be prevented from access an event in the oval room ”.
This Tuesday, an AP reporter was even prevented from watching an executive order signature in the Oval Room at an event that became a question and answers session with Trump and Elon Musk.
“It is alarming that the Trump administration punish AP for its independent journalism,” says AP executive editor Julie Pace in a statement. “Limit our access to the oval room based on the content of the AP speech not only severely prevent public access to independent news, but clearly violates the first amendment.”
AP’s guidance on Trump’s order to rename America’s Gulf states that the news agency “will continue to refer to this area using the original name, still recognizing the new name Trump has chosen.” AP states that this is due to the fact that the Gulf has the name Gulf of Mexico for “more than 400 years” and that other countries and international organizations do not have to recognize the name change.
The same is not true of Mount McKinley, whose name was changed by Trump – before it was called “Denali”. As the Alaska mountain area “is exclusively in the United States” and Trump had full authority to change its name, AP says it will use the name Monte McKinley.
The White House did not respond to a request for commentary on what happened to the AP reporter.
