In all Slovak high mountains, there is a small avalanche danger corresponding to the first stage of the five -part international scale on Saturday. This was reported by the avalanche prevention center of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) on the website.
“The situation is stable, older snow cover is sitting and reinforced. The avalanche is released only in exceptionally in positions above the forest zone on very steep slopes on which new experience is stored. The locally creates snow plates and pillows,” informs HZS.
Two to seven centimeters of new snow fell in the mountains in two days of weaker snowfall. It is in high altitudes transferred to leeward slopes, under the saddles and rock walls. In these places, the height of new snow reaches 10 to 15 centimeters, but this is only a local matter.
“The new snow has not significantly changed the snow conditions or the avalanche situation. The snow cover is significantly below average for the season. Continuous snow cover together with older snow is located only in the highest mountains (over 1500 meters above sea level). In the valleys there are sidewalks and roads often formed by ice covered with newer snow, “says HZS.
