“I do not think people should perceive it as something about details or move forward in some negotiations,” Bruce said, adding that US President Donald Trump had commissioned representatives to “effectively follow” his last week’s phone call in Riyadh. with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the Saudi metropolis of Riyadh, the negotiations between the Russian and the American delegation will begin on Tuesday, led by Foreign Ministers Marco Rubio and Sergei Lavrov. They will also be attended by Trump’s envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and the Russian side adviser Russian President Juri Ušakov.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the interviews would focus primarily on “restoring a whole range of American-Russian relations” as well as Ukraine and preparing a meeting of leaders of both countries.

Peskov also said that the lavrov and the ears would arrive in Riyadh during Monday. Rubio is already in Riyadh. Ušakov on Monday stressed that these are explicitly bilateral negotiations, without the participation of other countries.

The announced meeting will happen less than a week after Trump’s call with Putin. According to the BBC station, the meeting raised a great concern of the Ukrainian government, but also its allies from the West, who are afraid of the US-Russian agreement concluded without Ukraine and Europe.
