PGR denounces 24 military personnel, including generals and admiral

Of the 34 reported by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), on Tuesday (18), for alleged attempted coup, 24 are military of the Armed Forces.

Among them are six generals and an admiral. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is the only one that had no names mentioned in the document.

• Ailton Gonçalves Moraes Barros: Former candidate for state deputy for the PL in Rio de Janeiro in 2022 and a retired army retired major. During the 2022 election campaign, Barros called himself as the “01 of Jair Messias Bolsonaro”. He was arrested in the operation that determined the fraud on the former president’s vaccination card.
• Almir Garnier: Squadron Admiral that commanded the navy in the Bolsonaro government. He was one of the signatories of the note in defense of camps in front of Army Quartels after Bolsonaro’s defeat in the elections. It was cited in Mauro Cid’s award -winning denunciation as willing to participate in a coup d’état.
• Angelo Martins Denicoli: Major of the Army Reserve. During the Bolsonaro government, he was appointed director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Unified Health System (SUS), when he published false information on the use of hydroxychloroquine drug to treat Covid-19. He was the target of Operation Tempus Veritatis, which investigated a supposed attempt to blow by Bolsonaro and his allies.
• AUGUSTO HELENO: The general was Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) of Jair Bolsonaro. He was captain of the Brazilian Army during the military dictatorship and has already defended the 1964 coup publicly. The group that organized a coup plot intended to create a “crisis management office” led by Heleno.
• Net Course: Colonel arrested in the operation Tempus Veritatis, from PF. He is accused of joining a group that incited military personnel to join a military intervention plan to prevent the possession of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He obtained provisional freedom after testifying about an alleged coup plan and collaborating with the investigation.
• Cleverson Ney: reserve colonel and former officer of the land operations command. It was also the target of Operation Tempus Veritatis.
• Estevam Theophilo: General and former chief of the land operations command. It was also the command of the Special Operations Command, known as “Black Kids”. The group was the target of a new PF operation by a coup plan that intended to kill President Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF). The general was the target of Operation Tempus Veritatis. It is suspected of offering troops to Bolsonaro in support of a coup d’état.
• Fabrício Moreira de Bastos: Bachelor of Military Sciences from the Black Needles Military Academy. He is a colonel and was attached to the army in Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel.
• Giancarlo Gomes Rodrigues: Warrant Officer of the Army. It was the target of the operation of the PF that investigated the case of the “parallel Abin”. He is suspected of having monitored lawyer Roberto Bertholdo without judicial authorization. Berthold would be close to Rodrigo Maia and Joice Hasselmann, Bolsonaro’s opponents.
• Guilherme Marques de Almeida: Lieutenant Colonel commanded the command of the 1st Psychological Operations Battalion in Goiânia (GO). It was the target of Operation Tempus Veritatis. He became known after passing out and had to be rescued after the Federal Police officers knocked on his door.
• Hélio Ferreira Lima: Lieutenant Colonel of the Army active. He was dismissed from the position of Commander of the 3rd Special Forces Company in Manaus in February 2024, after being the target of a PF operation that found coup content between military personnel after Bolsonaro’s defeat in the election.
• Jair Messias Bolsonaro: Former President of the Republic and Military of the Army Reserve, according to the Federal Police inquiry, the former executive chief had “full knowledge” of the coup plan to kill President Lula, Vice President Alckmin and Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
• Marcelo Costa Câmara: Army colonel. He held the position of special advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, in the personal office of Jair Bolsonaro.
• Márcio Nunes de Resende Junior: Army colonel.
• Mário Fernandes: He is a general of the Army Reserve. He was a substitute head of the General Secretariat of the Presidency. He was arrested preventively, suspected of architecting the death of President Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court. Until March last year, Fernandes was packed as advisor to federal deputy Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ).
• Mauro Cesar Barbosa Cid: He is Lieutenant Colonel of the Army. He was an assistant to former President Jair Bolsonaro.
• Nilton Diniz Rodrigues: He is the army general. At the time of the alleged coup attempt, he was the commander of the 1st Special Forces Battalion and the Special Operations Command, military units located in Goiânia (GO).
• Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira: He is a reserve general. He commanded the army and was Minister of Defense in the management of Jair Bolsonaro.
• Rafael Martins de Oliveira: Lieutenant Colonel of the Army active, he was known as “Joe” and was also part of the group of “Black Kids” after the 2022 elections. He is investigated for requesting guidance on the places to hold the demonstrations after the victory of Lula.
• Ronald Ferreira de Araújo Junior: Also Lieutenant Colonel of the Army is accused of participating in discussions about a scammer
• Sérgio Ricardo Cavaliere de Medeiros: He is Lieutenant Colonel of the Army. According to the PF, he was part of the ‘disinformation nucleus and attacks on the electoral system’.
• Reginaldo Vieira de Abreu: Colonel of the Army Reserve, held the position of Chief of Staff of Mario Fernandes, then executive secretary of the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic. For investigators, Reginaldo helped Mário Fernandes disseminate false information about Brazil’s electronic voting system to “prevent the possession of the legitimately elected government.” In addition, he was accused of helping Fernandes “manipulate” an Armed Forces inspection report on the 2022 elections.
• Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo: Participated in the illegal monitoring of the routine of Alexandre de Moraes. “The evidence presented are convergent to demonstrate the participation of Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo in the clandestine action on 15/12/2022, which was intended to arrest/execute Minister Alexandre de Moraes, integrating the operational nucleus to comply with coercive measures ”Concluded the investigation.
• Walter Souza Braga Netto: He is a general of the Army Reserve. He was Minister of Defense and head of the Civil House during the government of Jair Bolsonaro, of whom he was a candidate for vice president in the last elections.
