In the middle of the Indian Ocean, there is a remote and paradise island with only 54 hectares: Platte Island. With immaculate beaches, tropical trees and a crystalline sea, this natural refuge houses one of the most luxurious resorts in the world. Forbes magazine recently highlighted Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island by attributing a Star Award, including it in the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide. Described as a “tropical refuge hidden among the exuberant vegetation of the island”, this resort, inaugurated in January 2024, was one of the great news of the hotel sector.
About 130 kilometers from the Seychelles capital, Mahé, Platte Island received his name from the French explorers in 1769 due to his practically flat relief, whose highest elevation reaches only three meters above the sea. The island is covered by dense tropical vegetation, creating an idyllic scenario that conquered the Waldorf Astoria group. From the beginning, the hotel chain has bet on the protection and preservation of the site.
“We believe that true luxury also involves promoting a deep human connection with nature. We work closely with internationally recognized universities to deepen our knowledge of the ocean and be the source of information about the latest developments in sustainability practices, ”said manager Elias nearby.
The resort occupies practically the entire island and has 50 villas, each surrounded by tropical gardens. The architecture is inspired by nature, with roofs that refers to turtle scales and a neutral color palette that harmonizes with the landscape. Overlooking the beach and a 14 -kilometer coral lagoon, the villas have private pools and large spaces.
In addition to natural beauty, the island stands out for the diversity of wildlife. Marine turtles use the island for nesting, which is why the villas were built away from the sand. Swallowing and a slob, nicknamed Henry by the resort’s team, are regular presence in this preserved ecosystem.
Welfare is one of the resort’s priorities, reflecting on Waldorf Astoria Spa. Inspired by the exotic coconut, this spa offers a sauna, Turkish bath, whirlpool pools and an infinite edge pool surrounded by serene gardens.
Gastronomy is another strong point on this paradise island. The resort has three restaurants, two bars and one coffee. Le Perle is ideal for breakfasts and lunch by the pool, while Maison des Epices offers a fusion of Creole cuisine with Latin influences. For vegetarian options, Moulin is the right choice. At the end of the day, Lalin and Peacock Terrace provide cocktails and relaxed moments.
Visitors can participate in various activities, such as Creole cooking classes, sunrise walks, diving and coconut painting. There is also a children’s club where children can explore marine life and learn in a fun way.
The inauguration of the resort included the construction of a landing track, allowing daily flights from Mahé to the island. The cost per night around € 1,485, and reserves can be made online. The place is also very well evaluated in, with all evaluations to be 5 star in almost all available parameters.
To reach the remote paradise island of Platte, it is necessary to first fly to Mahé. From Lisbon, round trip tickets start at 604 €, while from Porto and Faro prices start at 776 € and 895 €, respectively.
