The former president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who died at the age of 87

The PSD deputy Hugo Carneiro, Porto assumed, was the only one who abstained in the vow to regret Pinto da Costa that was approved in Parliament, for the remaining 229 elected.

Parliament approved, on Thursday, a vote of regret for the former president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, underlining the “indelible brand” he left in national sport.

Presented by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, the vote of regret had the favorable votes of all benchesexcept for Hugo Carneirovice president of the PSD bench and deputy elected by the Porto Electoral Circle, who refrained.

Hugo Carneiro is known to be a big fan of FC Porto, and has already highlighted the importance of for the club and to the northern region. But it was also One of the main supporters of André Villas-Boaso, in recent presidential elections.

In the vote of regret presented by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, it is stressed that the former FC Porto leader was a “Figure not exempt from controversy” and a “convinced and passionate portist”, with an important contribution to “the international affirmation of the country’s region”.

The vote of regret also remembers the connection of Pinto da Costa to Portuguese coaches who guided Porto as José Maria Pedroto, Artur Jorge and José Mourinho.

The former president of FC Porto established himself as the most titled and older leader of world football between 1982 and 2024.

Pinto da Costa died on February 15 at the age of 87. Had been diagnosed with one in September 2021.

Its state of health has worsened in recent weeks, less than a year after the defeat to the club’s presidency against André Villas-Boas.
