The Trump government sent e-mails to US Federal Government employees on Saturday night, asking them to detail their professional achievements from the previous week until Monday night or risk losing their jobs.

The emails were sent shortly after Elon Musk, the billionaire of the Trump administration’s government efficiency department, published on the social media website X that not responding to the email request would be seen as a resignation.

“All federal employees will soon receive an email asking them to indicate what they did last week,” Musk published in X. “The lack of response will be considered a resignation.”

The email, seen by Reuters, asks employees to respond with five points summarizing “what you did at work last week” and copy your managers.

It is unclear what is the legal basis Musk has to dismiss federal employees if they do not respond to their request and what would happen to employees who cannot detail confidential work.

Some Federal Judiciary employees received the email on Saturday, although the judiciary is not part of the executive branch, people said familiar with the matter.

The Administrative Office of the US Courts, the Judiciary’s administrative arm, did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau employees also received the email, according to people with knowledge of the subject. However, most agency employees have received orders not to perform any tasks since the beginning of this month, creating a puzzle.

The agency is also under temporary court order not to resume mass layoffs while awaiting the result of legal proceedings.

Affge, the union representing federal officials, said in a statement that it will contest any “illegal layoffs.”

The Trump government’s rapid and controversial process to reduce government spending by shrinking the federal workforce, led by Musk and its young advisers, which cuts costs, led to random layoffs that resulted in various errors and forced several Agencies rapidly reject vital employees, such as those who work with nuclear safety, defense and power generation.
