Pope Francis, 88, who faces pneumonia in both lungs, had a good night’s sleep, the Vatican said on the morning of Tuesday (25), according to Reuters. The Pontiff has been hospitalized since February 14 at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

In a brief statement, the Vatican said that “the Pope rested well all night.” Despite the positive information, Francisco’s state of health still inspires concern.

On Monday (24), the Holy See informed that the Pontiff’s picture remained critical, but had “slight improvement”. Light renal failure has been reported, but doctors have ensured that the condition is under control and does not pose an immediate risk.

Double pneumonia that hits Francisco is a severe infection that can ignite both lungs, making breathing difficult. The Vatican described the picture as “complex” caused by two or more microorganisms.

Since taking over the pontificate in 2013, Francisco has dealt with various health problems. It is particularly vulnerable to pulmonary infections as it had part of a lung removed in youth due to pleurisy.

Pope’s health conditions have been closely monitored, and faithful around the world have organized prayers for their recovery.
