Unilever announced on Tuesday that it decided to replace CEO Hein Schumacher, who was just under two years in office, with the current CFO Fernando Fernandez. The 58 -year -old executive has been at Unilever since 1988.
Before becoming a chief financial officer last year, he held various positions, such as president of Latin America, CEO in Brazil and president of the beauty and well-being business.
Fernandez worked as a financial officer since January 2024 and assumed additional responsibility through the supply and purchasing chain, digital and technology and business services from January 2025.
The Argentine is an economist graduated from the University of Buenos Aires. According to his profile on the company’s website, with a solid finance base, he worked in a supply chain, marketing and general management in a three -decades global career.
Fernandez was president of Beauty & Wellbeing Business Group, which was one of Unilever’s fastest growth business at the time, with a revenue of € 12.5 billion. This segment consists of four main pillars: hair care, skin care, prestige and health and well-being (vitamins, minerals and supplements).
A few days ago, announcing Unilever’s annual results, Fernandez stressed that the company had a growth of underlying 4.2%, led by the growth of 2.9%.

“Our 30 prominent brands, which represent more than 75%of our group’s revenues, performed well, with a 5.3%underlying sales growth, driven by volume growth of 3.8%. It presented consistent volume growth, ”he wrote in his LinkedIn account.
For this year, he said he expects the growth of underlying sales around the 3% to 5% range and a more balanced division between volume and price, as well as greater margin improvement.
