North Korea performed a military exercise simulating the launch of a strategic cruise missile objective of demonstrating the counter-attack capacity and the readiness of the nuclear assets of the country.
North Korea simulated on Wednesday the “launch of a Strategic Cruise missile” in the Yellow Sea, to demonstrate the performance of its “nuclear disadvantage,” said North Korean official news agency KCNA.
“A subunit capable of the combined missile units of the Korean Popular Army in the Western region simulated the launch of a strategic cruise missile” in the presence of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said the agency.
The exercise had as its objective About “Pyongyang’s counterattack ability in any space” and “the readiness of its various nuclear operational assets,” he said.
In the exercise, Kim said it was the responsibility of North Korea “defending national sovereignty and security”.
“A powerful attacking capacity,” he said, constitutes “the most perfect dissuasion and defense,” according to KCNA.
Images transmitted by the North Korean state media showed Kim, flanked by the authorities, carrying binoculars and observing a missile attack destroying a small building on a nearby island.
North Korean authorities accused the United States last week to exert “absurd pressure” on North Korea and warned that foreign military presence in the region could lead to serious situations.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers, Takeshi Iwayaa and Cho Tae Yol, respectively issued a joint statement after conversations in the German city of Munich, defending the continuation of trilateral military exercises in the region.
The three countries reiterated support to Taiwan (Republic of China) and also approved the presence of international organizations in the region.
Pyongyang justifies nuclear program as a defense against external threats
For Pyongyang, the United States has “sinister intentions” behind a “extreme military pressure on North Korea”.
According to the same document issued by a Pyongyang Foreign Ministry spokesman, the US Secretary of State was conniving with the diplomatic authorities of Japan and South Korea, with whom he spoke about the full denuclearization of North Korea.
“We express our concern about these acts from the United States, Japan and South Korea, which incite confrontation and conflict in the Korean peninsula,” said the North Korean regime.
North Korea justifies its nuclear weapons program for the threats it says to face from the United States and its allies, including South Korea.
US President Donald Trump who had a rare series of meetings with Kim Jong Un during his first term, said in an interview that he would contact the North Korean leader, whom he called “smart type.”
