A man advanced with a car over a crowd in the German city of Mannheim, in western Germany, causing 25 injured and two dead.
The running over happened in the Wassertura/Plankenkopf area, in a market in the city centerand an eyewitness that was in a restaurant near the incident told what he saw people fleeing in panic after the car hit the pedestrians.
The warning was given shortly after 12:35, local time. “Only the wounded and the dead are seen and it is not known what to do,” says a man who was on the market. “It was hell,” comments another witness.
According to Lusa, the security forces announced that the driver was arrestedand other sources say the car was a black SUV. Police asked the population to remain away from the city center.
According to a statement quoted by, the Mannheim University Hospital activated the “Catastroph’s Response” plan. “The operations that could be postponed and had not yet started were immediately taken from the operations calendar in order to create an additional operational capacity,” the hospital explains.
British television also advances that a large -scale police operation in the city center.
A prota-federal interior minister Nancy Faeser said that “saving lives, treating the injured and first investigations of the Mannheim authorities are now in the foreground.”
Germany watched an episode of running over pedestrians during a demonstration, which caused several injuries. In December, one to this one occurred during a Christmas market, making 6 dead and 299 injured.
