A driver broke into a pedestrian zone in the city of Mannhein in southwest Germany, and ran over dozens of people who celebrated Carnival on Monday, 3, police said. One person died.
The city police, 80 kilometers from Frankfurt and near the France border, said a suspect was arrested. Police also asked local residents to stay at home.
Witnesses heard by the Reuters news agency said several people were seen falling on the floor after running over and two of them were being revived by the emergency teams.
The hit crowd was participating in a carnival street parade, which is celebrated in several regions in Germany, according to local press.
The incident occurred when crowds gathered in cities of various regions, including Rhine in Germany, for parades that marked the Carnival season.
This is the second attack like this in Germany in less than a month. In February, an Afghan driver ran over dozens of people in Munich. The attack, considered a terrorist by the German authorities, killed mother and daughter and left several people injured.

Police were on maximum alert for Carnival parades this year after accounts on social networks linked to the Islamic State terrorist group appealed to attacks during events in the cities of Colonia and Nuremberg. No incidents were recorded in these cities. (With international agencies)
