“For now, I'm a candidate,” says Bolsonaro about PL candidacy in 2026

Former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said on Wednesday that he remains for now as a presidential candidate in 2026. Despite the statement, Bolsonaro is ineligible by 20230 for abuse of political power and misuse of media.

“For now, I’m a candidate. The other candidates out there, Gusttavo Lima, [Ronaldo] Caiado, [Romeu] Zema, they have their parties. I even think it would be good for your parties to release their candidates. In a second round, the parties come together, one of the two that went to the second round. It would be the best to do, ”he said alongside PL President Valdemar Costa Neto.

Former president also pointed out that the complaint of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has “completely unfounded accusations.”

“They want to get me out of next year’s political scene,” Bolsonaro said.

Revocation of measures

Minister Alexandre de Moraes complied with requests for the defense of Valdemar Costa Neto and revoked the precautionary measures against the PL president, last Tuesday (11). With the decision, Valdemar was able to resume contact with Jair Bolsonaro and military personnel, as well as recovering his passport and permission to leave the country. The property seized will also be returned.

In requesting the revocation of the measures, the defense argued that the politician was not denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), as part of the attempted coup d’état, which aims Bolsonaro and 33 others.
