The Minister of Finance, emphasized the importance of focusing on negotiations with them, instead of adopting retaliation measures. He pointed to an “misconception of diagnosis” by Americans regarding tariffs, stating that the arguments presented by Brazilian industry are solid and can be fundamental in discussions.

The Brazilian steel industry has requested actions in response to the tariffs imposed by the US, which impact both imports and exports. Haddad clarified that the approach should be differentiated: while exports must be dealt with through negotiations, imports require a more assertive defense.

25% tariffs on steel and aluminum, implemented by the United States, have generated concerns in Brazil, which is one of the main exporters of steel semi -molded products. The minister pointed out that Brazilian entrepreneurs are looking for alternatives to dialogue with Americans, noting that the dynamics of steel imports and exports in Brazil do not align with US assumptions.

According to US government data, last year Canada was the largest steel supplier in volume for Americans, with 20.9% of the total, followed by Brazil –16%, with 3.88 million tons. In January, the country was the largest exporter of the month in volume (499 thousand tons). New rates eliminate the minimum exemption quota, applying to all imported quantities, which affects a significant amount of $ 147.3 billion in products related to these metals.
